5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC FISHTANK!   February 4, 2010
A. Rawlinson (SAN ANTONIO, TX, US)
I purchased this fish tank for Christmas for my step-daughters room. So far no trouble at all. Its very nice small tank. I will say you might want to order extra ceramic media as what is included is a small amount not enough to cover the bottom of tank. We also ordered the baby plant ring looks awesome. Would recommend to friends and family looking for a modern, interesting fish bowl.

1 out of 5 stars Leaky   January 18, 2010

I have had it for less than a year and it's now leaking out the bottom. I screwed it in a little tighter, and it's now leaking faster? There is also water in the line. I contacted the manufacturer so we'll see if they're helpful. Sort of a bummer because it does look nice. Although it's expensive to maintain..

4 out of 5 stars Good starter tank -- now I want a Mega   January 15, 2010
J. Royce (Nashua, NH United States)
I bought the Baby BiOrb about 5 months ago to get my kids interested in fish keeping. We've got a platys and guppy and an oto in the tank plus a single live plant.

So far we've been very happy with the aquarium, although I do admit that I now want a bigger one so I can add more fish. We lost one platys recently (we had 2) but I don't think it was due to overcrowding--I suspect he was not 100% well when we got him as he's always been somewhat lethargic and never as social as our other two swimmers. The tank cycled quickly. I do regular ammonia tests and have never tested higher than zero since the second week.

I want to add here that I was not a fan of the ceramic media--both for asthetic reasons and because I wanted my plant to have something more substantial to root in. So I bought some coarser gravel at PetCo, added the ceramic media around the perimeter of the filter housing and then added the gravel on the outside of that. I've had no issue with this affecting the ability of the filter to operate.

Filter changes are easy but I do recommend getting the gravel vacuum. I lift the filter and then immediately siphon out the water underneath to avoid polluting the tank. I change the filter once a month and I siphon out 1/2 gallon of water per week. It takes about 10 minutes to keep the tank clean.

Finally, my plant loves this tank. It started as a little four bladed Lanceolota and now I am pruning it on a regular basis. This is a great plant for beginners and my Oto loves it because the leaves are broad and smooth so he can cling to it easily.

You don't need to buy the BiOrb heater--I bought a standard thermostatic heater with suction cups and it works just fine.

1 out of 5 stars I just looks nice   December 25, 2009
L. Orzeszek
I purchased this product and I wished I hadn't.

The air pump is unbearably noisy, so I purchased a new one from Reef One, but they sent me another jet engine.

The filter system is so poor, that my Platys died, and my male Beta, who was the next inhabitant after the Platys, contracted fin rot. All these conditions are attributable to having to completely replace the filter which disturbs the bacteria in the tank.

In addition, the ceramic media is very sharp and jagged and will tear fins of fish and scratch acrylic.

This tank just looks nice, but it isn't conducive for life, the replacement filters are way too expensive, and the air pump is deafening.

5 out of 5 stars You should BUY this ORB, haha I'm precious.   December 10, 2009

I purchased this for my girlfriend and I have to say it came out to be a great gift. Even though it is the smallest of the BiOrbs, the Baby is still pretty big. I would say its enough space for several small fish or a few of the mid-sized variety. Right now ours is holding 4 standard sized Tiger Barbs, a small African frog and a fiddler crab with room for plenty more. The orb design of the bowl magnifies its contents visually depending on your angle of view and you can get some pretty extreme closeups of your fish. However be careful not to set the bowl where sunlight shines down on it, not just to keep algae from growing faster but also because the bowl can also direct the light into a beam that is capable of causing fire much like a magnifying glass. Your well warned of this in the directions though. This has not been an issue with ours and is just said in precaution. My favorite part of buying this was how easy it was to set up. You have the bowl, a filter, your gravel media and some plants to set up. The filter and halogen lighting runs off the same low-voltage power source and only requires one wall plug. The lid contains the lighting and a hole for feeding. The simplicity makes this a great gift idea for kids as it eliminates most of the hassles you get from normal aquariums.
